A new crush washer is essential for every oil change, because it is a single-use gasket designed to permanently deform when tightened.This "crushing" action forms a microscopic seal between the drain plug and the oil pan, preventing fluid leaks and protecting soft engine threads from stripping.Using an uncrushed, new washer allows the plug to be tightened to the proper torque spec.
